Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción, San Antonio, TX

This colonial religious structure was erected between 1740 and 1755 in the Colonial Baroque architectural style. The local natives had no tradition of building with twin towers and cupola. Today, the mission stands as the oldest unrestored stone church in the United States, standing as completed in 1755.

The building displays characteristic Colonial Baroque elements adapted for its time and place. The interior space features a domed ceiling at the east end, complemented by period chandeliers and an ornate tabernacle positioned above the main altar.

The sacred space remains active for worship. Mass continues to be celebrated on Sundays and holidays at the original altar, demonstrating the enduring spiritual function of this 18th-century structure.
