St. Paul, Silverton

St. Paul in Silverton, Oregon underwent a significant liturgical renovation in 1976, designed by Fr. John Domin. The renovation exemplifies Post-Vatican II church architecture and design principles.

The altar features a crucifix depicting the risen Christ, accompanied by an ambo and altar cloth handcrafted by community artisans. A wooden presider’s chair completes the sanctuary arrangement. A Coptic processional cross from Ethiopia was incorporated during the renovation, adding historical and cultural significance to the sacred space.

The church displays multiple stained glass installations, including a “Lamb of God” window and additional glass work in the reconciliation room, reflecting Christian symbolism and artistic craftsmanship. The reconciliation room features a carved wooden screen paired with stained glass, providing a distinct area for the sacrament of reconciliation.

The 1976 renovation emphasizes the integration of liturgical function with contemporary sacred art, representing the architectural evolution of Catholic churches in the post-Vatican II era.
