St. Mary, Corvallis

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Corvallis was constructed in 1968, designed by architect John Storrs. The building exemplifies Post-Vatican II church architecture.

The church includes a covered entry walkway leading to the main sanctuary. Carved wooden doors by artist Leroy Setziol serve as an artistic entrance to the sacred space.

The interior contains several significant artworks commissioned for the church: a tapestry depicting the Risen Christ, created by Eleanor Van De Water; a paschal candle designed by Tom Hardy, used during baptisms and Easter services; a metal sculpture of St. John the Baptist, also by Tom Hardy; and a gold leaf metal sculpture representing the Madonna and Child. Stained glass windows complete the sanctuary.

Lambert Rucki created white cement stations of the cross for the church, including representations of Jesus taking up his cross, meeting his mother, and being taken down from the cross. The combination of architectural design and commissioned artwork reflects the church’s commitment to integrating sacred art into its liturgical space.
