Oregon Churches

St. Francis, Sherwood

St. Francis is a Post-Vatican II Catholic church located in Sherwood, Oregon. The building was designed by architect Richard Fowler of the Joseph van Lom Architectural Firm.

The sanctuary incorporates modernist elements characteristic of contemporary Catholic church design. A distinctive white tubular sculpture abstractly defines the sanctuary space, creating visual separation and focus in the worship area. The church features a Blessed Sacrament Chapel with its own altar and stained glass windows.

The building’s design emphasizes the integration of the surrounding natural environment, visible through the Douglas fir trees on the property. The ambulatory at the rear of the church provides additional circulation space, while the overall architectural approach reflects contemporary liturgical principles regarding sacred space and functionality.
