Sacred Heart Church in Gervais, Oregon underwent significant liturgical renovation in 1967 under the guidance of Fr. John Domin, who served as liturgical consultant.
The altar was carved from cast stone by sculptor Lee Kelly during the 1967 renovation. The sanctuary includes a tabernacle and ambo, complemented by a tapestry created by artist Lolita Celsi. A distinctive sanctuary chandelier, also by Lee Kelly, enhances the worship space. A processional cross, crafted by Lee Kelly, is displayed prominently. The church incorporates multiple liturgical banners, including one bearing the inscription “He has done marvelous things,” designed by Fr. Domin himself.
The church displays cloisonné enamel stations of the cross, including a station depicting Jesus being taken down from the cross. Stained glass windows and additional liturgical banners adorn the reconciliation room, contributing to the overall aesthetic of Christian symbolism throughout the sacred space.
The 1967 renovation reflects the post-Vatican II emphasis on liturgical renewal and contemporary sacred art in Catholic worship environments.
