Holy Redeemer, Portland

Holy Redeemer Church in Portland underwent significant renovation in 1970, guided by liturgical consultant Fr. John Domin. The project reflects Post-Vatican II church architecture principles.

The church features a vaulted entry and was redesigned to emphasize modern Catholic liturgical needs. The sanctuary includes an altar and tabernacle crafted by sculptor Lee Kelly, paired with a Tree of Life banner by Sue Maddocks.

The 1970 renovation incorporated several artistic components: stained glass works by Gerry Veley appear throughout the church, including in the reconciliation room; the Stations of the Cross are rendered in stained glass; a baptismal font is located in the narthex vestibule, positioned in front of stained glass windows; and a Madonna and Child shrine accompanies an ambo for readings. The reconciliation room features a prie-dieu and artistic stained glass.

The renovation represents a thoughtful integration of contemporary sacred art with functional liturgical spaces designed for active parish participation.
