Liebfrauenkirche, Trier, Germany

Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Dear Lady) in Trier, Germany was designed by architect Rudolf Schwartz (1897–1961). The church features a distinctive modern design centered around liturgical participation.

The sanctuary is arranged in a circular configuration with a free-standing altar positioned at the center, allowing the congregation to surround it during worship. This design emphasizes communal engagement with the sacred space.

Rather than being placed on the altar itself, the tabernacle is housed beneath a baldachino positioned behind the altar. Altar rails encircle the altar area, defining the sacred space. The baldachino structure is supported by four pillars and was designed by an artist named Wimmer, creating a distinct focal point within the circular sanctuary.
