Corpus Christi was built in 1930 by architect Rudolph Schwartz, 1897-1961, with the help of Hans Schwippert. Schwartz, author of "The Church Incarnate", proposed Six Plans to embrace worship in the Christian Church. He was an architect, priest, and Mies van der Rohe associate whose work was considered a primer for church building. The church had a raised altar and unadorned walls.
Light pours in through the clear glass windows and reflects off the white walls.
The beautiful black altar was raised above the congregation to encourage participation in the liturgy. The tabernacle has a blue facade.
Expressive Stations of the Cross hang on the wall at eye-level just above the benches.
